Federal Secretary Desk
A federal secretary desk has very classic design elements. Of course, this starts with the three finial top. The brass finials appear original. The bookcase has two glass doors, each decorated with two Gothic style arches. Unfortunately, these glazed glass panels do not have a wavy, hand-blown look. Apparently, someone replaced the glass at some point. Regardless, it has a beautiful look! Two adjustable shelves on the interior finish the bookcase.
The desk surface has a slanted fold down desk. Also, the desk surface has a nice quality fabric writing surface. Of course, the desk rests on two extending arms.
This Federal secretary desk is comprised of two pieces. The bottom section has three drawers. The top two drawers have matching hardware, while the bottom drawer has a different knob. Obviously, these drawers display hand dovetailed joints. Finally, the desk sits on reeded legs.
This antique desk has not been altered in the finish. Indeed, we decided to simply polish the beautiful aged secretary desk. Thus, it retains the look of a true antique. Of course, with any piece of 200 year old furniture, expect to find some cracks and ageing to the finish. The mahogany does have a beautifully warm patina.
