The features and style of this antique secretary desk top make it quite eye catching! Although it doesn’t have a bookcase top, the desk has a very sweet display platform. In other words, the desk has two cubbies that flank a beveled glass door. These three sections offer very nice display options for collectibles or knick-knacks. Of course, above this section, sits another platform where one could decorate as well.
The antique secretary desk features a drop front writing desk. Basically, this sort of antique secretary desk provides a writing surface that can be hidden away. The drop front desk has two extending arms that support the desk. Beautiful fan shaped carvings are inscribed on either side of the outside of the writing desk surface. Craftsmen employed many woodworking techniques to decorate this desk. In addition, the ornate hardware and hinges add further style to this incredible piece.
While this antique desk has incredible detail, it originally had many finish flaws and blemishes. Thus, we were prompted to restore and refinish the Victorian desk. We started by removing the old finish on the desk. After a bit of sanding, we were able to bring back a beautiful color to the antique desk. It has a very warm reddish tone to it. Finally, we added a protective lacquer in a low sheen to protect this Victorian desk for many years.
This antique secretary desk has incredible Victorian style. Certainly, we can see the Victorian desire for ornament on this desk. It has so much detail and decoration. Indeed, the small desk is nonetheless a beautiful antique gem!
