Kaplan Furniture Company crafted this china cabinet of solid mahogany timber. (The Kaplan Furniture Company also goes by the name of “Beacon Hill Furniture”.) Kaplan produced and sold their fine goods in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A Russian immigrant founded and led the company early at the turn of the 20th century. Kaplan aimed to reproduce fine furniture of the 16th and 17th century. In doing so, they made a name for themselves. They gained great fame as a beautiful, classic fine furniture company.
Kaplan China Cabinet
This vintage china cabinet displays many characteristic of quality and beauty. The Queen Anne period is beautifully articulated in this piece. It has tall swooping Queen Anne legs. In addition, it has a “broken arch” and finial top. Very similar to period highboy dressers, this piece also has five small drawers. Furthermore, craftsmen carved a concave shell motif into the middle drawer. Unquestionably, these characteristics give the piece a very elegant look.
The vintage china cabinet has two shelves on the interior. A plate rail runs along the back of each shelf. The shelves inside the vintage china cabinet are deep. Books, china or other collectibles will find plenty of roominess within. The glass doors on the cabinet have a beautiful honeycomb style mullion. This means each piece of glass is custom fitted in between the wood mullions. Certainly, it is a mark of quality. Finally, Solid Brass Chippendale Style hardware complete the piece.
Our team restored and refinished this piece. We aim to restore vintage furniture when possible, and when we feel the value will be enhanced. In this case, the vintage Kaplan china cabinet had such beautiful attributes. However, its old finish looked tired and dingy. By simply restoring the finish and color, this piece will certainly see many more years of use. No doubt, the new owner will cherish and love this Kaplan china cabinet.
