Antique Empire Chest
SORRY THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD Antique chest of drawers circa 1840 (19th century)
A beautiful mahogany chest of drawers from the first half of the 19th Century. This Empire Chest has lovely “s” scroll columns, curled feet and two top serpentine front drawers, accessible from hidden grooves undercut beneath the drawers. The chest is beautifully accentuated with the finest crotch mahogany, a rare and sought after wood. The book veneer symmetry is very well executed on this piece and adds to the beauty and dimension of the chest. Curves are repeated again on the scroll cut back-splash as well, often missing from New England Empire chests of this period. The back of the chest has been marked with presumably an owner’s name and city of destination (or origin) of Richmondville, NY.
