Description
Beautiful and Unique MZ Austria Six Piece Antique Dessert Set.
This beautiful set includes one large (10″ diameter) plate and five small (6.5″ diameter) plates. Each plate has a very unusual scalloped edge that is reminiscent of a leaf’s edge.
The design on the plate is quite striking as well. An alternating brown and green wash decorates the outer edges of the plates, which are raised with a low-relief scroll work design. A lush bouquet of several white, yellow and pink roses decorates the center. Finally, there is a nice hint of gold on the outer edge of each plate. The plate shows a very nice naturalistic design with quite a bit of detail. Some of the areas are raised with paint on the petals.
The plates are in good antique condition, with some light speckling and light losses to the gold paint around the edges.
Each plate is stamped with the MZ Austria mark (stands for Moritz Zdekauer), and also includes a two headed eagle. Moritz Zdekauer exported lavish porcelain to American and Dutch colonies in the late 19th century. According to my research, this stamp was in production by the company from 1884-1909. The wording, along with the mark, were changed when the company was purchased in 1909 by C.M. Hutschenreuther.
The set is offered for sale for $129 plus $24 shipping and packaging. You may also pick up the set at our storefront in Waynesboro PA.
