The antique hall tree has grandeur without being gaudy and has a very nice height. Of course, the antique hall tree is fitted with beveled glass mirror, which was a true opulent feature for the time.

R.J. Horner Furniture

R.J. Horner Furniture Company was known for offering exquisite mahogany pieces in their multi-floor showroom in Manhattan between the years of 1880 and 1913. Their craftsman made and produced most of the furniture in-house during that period. Of course, they also imported a few pieces in the late 1890’s from Venice, as well. Clearly, they specialized in carved and lavish furniture. Of course, the company tailored their furniture pieces to well heeled New York residents. R.J. Horner Furniture company aimed to establish themselves primarily as a luxury brand.

Due to economic factors in the late 19th century, namely the Financial Panic of 1893, and a fire that destroyed a large part of the Horner showroom in 1904, Robert J Horner teamed up with Flint Furniture in 1915.

This piece has the original tag from R.J. Horner marking his addresses on West 23rd Street. Indeed, this antique hall tree was made during the original operation as a solo company. Thus, it is likely made between the years of 1880 and 1910. Stylistically, it is a bit toned down in comparison to other Victorian furniture and Horner works. However, it provides a beautiful focal point for any historic or traditional home.

Our restoration team sought to highlight the beauty of this hall tree, while maintaining the period look of R.J. Horner Furniture. So, they did a few repairs to some of the wood veneers, and added a mellow and deep mahogany finish. They also coated the antique hall tree with a lacquer. This should help guard this hall tree from future blemishes and finish scratches.
