Antique Buffet, Federal Style

antique buffet

Gorgeous and tasteful, this mahogany antique buffet exudes elegance. This beautiful Federal Style sideboard dates to circa 1820. Of course, this antique buffet has beautiful features that can be of service in modern homes.

Federal Style Sideboard

This Federal style sideboard allows for ample storage and buffet top space with over 2 feet of depth. It has a very dramatic bowed front shape. Obviously, this makes the drawers and cabinet space deep as well. On the right, a drawer opens. Inside, a smaller drawer with velvet lining hides inside. To the left, the door swings open like a cabinet door. This area would be perfect for large serving dishes or punch bowls that never seem to fit in modern cabinets!

However, all practical matters aside, this antique buffet is desirable because of its age and beauty! This beautiful Federal Style sideboard has lovely Sheraton style legs, beautiful oval brass hardware and lovely mahogany veneer work. It is inlaid with delicate banding and line-inlay and has a beautiful bowed shape. One side houses a deep drawer with lift-out silver box (lined in original material), while the other side features a clever matching cabinet door. The simplicity of design is matched by the high quality materials. Indeed, mahogany was the wood of choice for wealthy home owners in the early 19th century.

This antique sideboard piece has been beautifully restored yet still maintains the warmth and patina of an original antique piece. It would feel at home in a traditional space or one with period detail, and could work beautifully as an entry way, living or dining room piece.
