What’s an Antique Bookcase Worth? Value? Price?

Antique Bookcase

What’s an Antique Bookcase Worth? What’s the value? what is a fair price? Bohemians antique store sold an antique bookcase the the one shown in the photo in March of 2018 for about $1200. The bookcase was refinished and restored to its original beauty.

In rough condition the value is much less probably around half or $400-$600 price range.
The specs were as follows:

Item: Antique Mahogany Paw Foot Double Door Bookcase.

Age & Condition: Circa 1890. Excellent Antique Condition. Refinished and Restored.

Size: 59.5″ wide x 17.5″ deep x 67″ tall.

Antique Bookcase
Beautiful mahogany paw foot antique bookcase with double glazed glass doors and hairy paw feet. This late 1800’s Empire Revival glass door bookcase has a fantastic look and is a great size for a living room, office or library. The antique bookcase is flanked on either side with two large mahogany Corinthian style columns, terminated in carved hairy paw feet. The shelves are adjustable. It includes a key.

Glass Door Bookcase
This piece has been beautifully restored and refinished. The glass is original and has a beautiful wavy hand blown look. Of course, the glass has been put in the cabinet pane by pane. It has all the glazing on the interior of the doors. An antique bookcase from the late 1800s such as this one has the quality and craftsmanship that rarely exists today.

This beautiful antique bookcase underwent a bit of finish work. Our restoration team took their time to strip the old finish. Then they added new stain and finally a lacquer finish. Certainly, this allows Victorian furniture to breath a new life!

  1. We would ask about $800 to $1200 on the current decorators market . as used furniture probably about half that price.

  2. In the early 1970s, I bought a huge wrought iron/brass baker’s rack (no pun intended) by Baker Furniture from Sloan’s Furniture on Connecticut Avenue, Washington, D.C.

It is in excellent condition. Can you tell me what it might be worth?

    Thank you.
